Towards Eden is a design and editorial project developed during a period when AI image-generation models were rapidly emerging. It examines how technology intersects with religion and urban space in the Baden-Württemberg region through a speculative lens.
The book is built around fictional interviews with local parish priests, paired with AI-generated images of crucifixes placed in traffic roundabouts around the town of Schwäbisch Gmünd. These visual and textual narratives explore the cultural identity of the area, blending tradition with contemporary technological speculation.
Beyond its thematic depth, the project investigates the role of design as a storytelling tool, using editorial structure, typographic systems, and visual language to navigate complex cultural and ethical questions around artificial intelligence.

The design blends elements of a driveway guide with those of a design theory essay, thanks to its topographical elements and speculative iconography
Overall, Towards Eden positions editorial design as a medium for critical reflection on technological change. By merging speculative narratives with AI-generated imagery, the project challenges conventional notions of representation, inviting viewers to consider how culture, faith, and emerging technologies intertwine in shaping the built environment.
